Course Description

This course offers a fascinating journey through the evolution of music, from classical music to modern genres. Students will explore different musical periods and styles, the most influential composers and musicians, and the historical and cultural context in which they developed. Additionally, the course will analyze the distinctive characteristics of each musical genre and its impact on society. The course will also include listening to and analyzing representative musical pieces from each era. Class Duration: The course is designed to be delivered over 12 weeks, with a 1.5-hour class each week. Each session will focus on a specific musical period or style, allowing students to delve into the details and contexts of each one. Course Structure: Week 1: Introduction to the History of Music Week 2: Music of Antiquity and the Middle Ages Week 3: Renaissance Music Week 4: Baroque Week 5: Classicism Week 6: Romanticism Week 7: 20th Century Music: Impressionism and Expressionism Week 8: Jazz and Blues Week 9: Rock and Roll and Pop Music Week 10: Electronic Music and Hip-Hop Week 11: 21st Century Music Week 12: Final Projects and Presentations Each class will include a combination of readings, musical piece analysis, group discussions, and practical activities such as creating thematic playlists and researching musicians and composers. Additionally, virtual visits to concerts and musical events will be conducted to observe music in its original context.
